a whole lot of nothing..

that is what we were looking for...

and that is what we found...

it has been a long time since we had a break from everyday life...and yes, folks
that live here on la isla need a break as well...

it can be very hectic around here as in the last year we switched from earning
a living in the US to earning a living here...

it is harder than you think...

and so we needed a bit of a break...and a very cool guy in our office (Edwin)
suggested a place on the north part of the Yukatan: Rio Lagartos...

it sounded like a good place for us to check out...a very small town with not much
to do...

well, that was an understatement...

we arrived in town on a Thursday afternoon and found a whole lot of nothing...

it was kind of creepy at first...everyone we saw was just standing around or sitting
and not doing a thing...sometimes they were not even talking...just sitting there...
but we sure got used to it...FAST...

turns out the folks there are actually quite good at doing nothing much...and i am
a bit jealous...

oh we could have done a few things when we were there...take pictures of the
pink flamingos or go on a boat tour...but that would be something, and wanted
none of that...

we checked into the nicest hotel (Hotel Villa de Pescadores)and got their best
room...700 pesos for a king bed studio...but it had a nice deck that looked out
over the "river"...

Rio Largartos is not really a river, so i am unsure who came up with that name...it
is more like a bay...but who am i to judge? that would take effort to judge...
no need for that...

there were only 2 stores that sold ice...and both were sold out...so we had to
drive to nearby San Felipe for a bag of ice so we could enjoy a couple of cold
beers...and everyone in town seemed to be watching us as we drove in, drove
out and drove back in again...cause that was all there was to do in town...watch
stupid gringos drive around...

we were so exhausted and worn out from working so hard, i think all we had for
dinner was a peanut butter & jelly sandwich and a couple of ice cold (thank you)
Sols...we packed the food supplies as we had driven thru Mexico before and are
always unsure if there is anything to eat...and it was good enough for the
first night...

the next morning, we talked about moving to another location since we were
the ONLY tourists in town and it seemed strange...

then we decided it was just what we wanted: nothing...

we sat on the deck and didnt say much...just looked out over the water and
watched the birds and the clouds in the air...

there is a nice restaurant next to the hotel...i think it is the ONLY restaurant
in town...since we didnt venture out much, it was the only one i saw...

it was perfect...slow service, but good food and not pricey at all...enough to
feed us for the day...perfect...the owners had plenty of time to chat with us
about nothing since there were no tourists around...

after the first 2 nights, we thought we would try a new place...until we realized
that would entail doing something...and something is not what we wanted to do...we
wanted to do nothing...

so we paid for a 3rd night and enjoyed the day once again doing a whole lot of nothing...sleeping late... a little lunch... a couple beers in the afternoon...a long
siesta...light dinner...game of cards...

it is amazing how easy it is to fill up 4 days and 3 nights doing very little...and we
really liked it...

no computers, no TV...just a little music and a little conversation and drink or two
with the woman i love...

of course, the journey back thru Cancun and onto the car ferry and onto la isla
was an adventure...it goes with the territory down here...

and it is a great place to come home to...the island is amazing in so many ways,
and after being gone for a few days, it sure felt good to be back home...

but we sure enjoyed Rio Lagartos...

and doing a whole lot of nothing...

Jimbo
