There is no music in
the street today
nor was there last
night...
but there is a novena being said...
my friend and neighbor died last night at home...
Oscar was an old guy and looked as if he had led a full and interesting
life...
his lived with his family...his children and their children...
what a cool guy and a great neighbor he was...he always had time to
talk...
he spoke little english, but every time i would walk by, he would say
"how are you today" in english...
even though he was unable to work, he enjoyed sitting with others and
watching them work...he would do that for days at a time...to pass the
time i guess...and no one seemed to mind him doing that...it was nice to
have him around...
he spoke maya, spanish and his english was not bad either...
i helped him the other day with a favor in my truck...when we were done,
i told him to ask me again soon, that it was no problem...he asked me
how much he could pay me, and i told him nothing - that he was my
friend...
i sure am glad i got to tell him that...it was the last time we spoke...
i will miss walking by his house and hearing him call out to me...
i would not say that we were close friends...but friends for sure...
and he sure was a great neighbor...
what happened to my friend Oscar last night will happen to me
someday...and to everyone eventually...kinda makes my list of chores
today seem unimportant...
salud a mi amigo...
rest in peace my friend...
