what recession???
my apologies in advance for being such an idiot...
although my business has struggled mightily over the last several motnhs,
it sure struck me...
after being exiled to the united states of obama to try and earn a peso or
two, i returned to la isla after two LONG weeks of incessant advertising
and over-the top-get-out-of my-way-i-am-in-a-hurry-traffic in the estados
unidos...
geez...now i remember why i hate being there so much...but i digress (as
usual)...
so i get off the plane for the umteenth time in cancun and go down the
escalator and what do i find?
one hundred billion gringos waiting to get their passports checked...
maybe that is an exxageration (maybe...), but it sure seemed like
it...holy crap, i could hardly get off the damn esalator there were so
many gringos in the room headed to their favorite all-inclusive...
and it hit my like a ton of bricks...
what recession??????
that is a lot of freakin money in that room...
airfare, hotel, suncsreen.... hell...the cost of a taxi to gran puerto
must cost the GNP of honduras...etc...
there was a helluva a lot of gringos that just flew 3000 miles to be
awestruck ("they have a {gasp} a starbucks....in cancun! how funny! a
goddam starbucks...look honey....a STARBUCKS in mexico...")
i joked with a fellow gringo and gringette on the shared ride van when we
FINALLY arrived at gran puerto...i told them "welcome to mexico -
finally"...cause the ride thru the hotel zone aint a whole lot
different than pleasantville, usa...
anyway...i have digressed enough for one cocktail...
there is actually a question in this mess...
is there REALLY a recession? (my business seems to think so....)
if so, what in the world is with all these gringos playing red light/green
light?
i need some answers!
i need some reassurance there is a recession!
i need some guacamole!
is there anyone out there in chatter-board-world that knows wassup with
all this?
(and disfruta la vida to the travelers - not the tourists...)
